The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Division of Cardiology is seeking to hire a Laboratory Technician.

The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for maintaining mouse colonies, primary cardiomyocytes culture isolated from rat or mouse, conducting some cellular and molecular studies to evaluate the molecular mechanism and functional role of cardiac epigenetics in heart failure, and helping with everyday laboratory procedures.

Experience in basic cellular and molecular biology techniques or animal procedures is preferred. Good organization and prioritization skills are required, as well as some flexibility to adjust to work schedule for time-sensitive experiments. The members of the team are highly collaborative and interactive, and strong communication skills are required for candidates. The incumbent must be able to accurately record and coordinate data collection and analysis and manage interaction with several investigators in a professional manner.

Associate’s degree with commensurate experience may be considered. Previous experience in a research setting and experience with laboratory techniques preferred. Willingness to work with experimental animal preparations, chemicals and biological materials. Ability to interact with doctors, scientists, staff and students on a professional level. Organizational skills and attention to detail are essential. Prioritization and multitasking skills are helpful.
