Parent Ambassador

Job Description

The Parent Ambassador will help ensure diverse participation in the planning, development, and delivery of statewide and the Pennsylvania Child Welfare Resource Center (Resource Center) initiatives. The Parent Ambassador is an individual who has had the experience of being a primary caregiver and decision maker for a child involved with the child welfare system. This experience includes navigating and negotiating services and supports from the child welfare system on behalf of his/her family. This individual may be a birth parent, step-parent, adoptive parent, foster parent, grandparent, or significant extended family member (list not inclusive of all options). The Parent Ambassador must be able to effectively articulate his/her experiences of involvement in the child welfare system, and have the ability and willingness to share those experiences and make connections to other families’ experiences. The Parent Ambassador functions as a team member of the Youth and Family Engagement Unit, Statewide Quality Improvement Department at the Resource Center.

High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field preferred. A minimum of 1 year involvement with the child welfare system as a primary caregiver and decision maker for a child involved in the child welfare system and experience navigating and negotiating supports from the child welfare system on behalf of his/her family, within the past 10 years required. Personal experiences with multiple human services systems, including child welfare, and advocacy experience preferred.

Must have strong facilitation, verbal and written communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.

A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel throughout the state is required.

PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required as a condition of employment.
