Safe, environmentally friendly and cost-efficient rail vehicles, together with a sustainable and reliable railway infrastructure: VIRTUAL VEHICLE experts have been focusing on extensive research in this area for more than ten years.

The department “Rail Systems” dedicates its comprehensive system knowledge to actual challenges within the rail system. Being part or the European collaborative research initiative Shift2Rail our research is linked to the big players in railway industry.


    Researcher for Vehicle-Track Interaction (m/f)

  • Modelling vehicle and track dynamics
  • Simulation of loads and wear damage in the context of vehicle-track interaction
  • Analysis of the whole system by integrating pre-existing know-how for model development
  • Model development and application in collaboration with our rail research team
  • Coordination and independent handling of EU-Projects
  • Cooperation with big players in railway industry
  • Publication of your results (journals/paper, meetings, conferences…)


  • Master’s Degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, rail vehicle technology or similar
  • Strong interest in system dynamics and vehicle-track Interaction
  • ‘Big Picture’ – Mentality necessary
  • Significant programming skills (preferably Matlab, Python)
  • Ability to work both in a team and independent
  • Excellent language skills in English (German would be of value also)
  • Professional experience in rail vehicle engineering is of advantage

The minimum annual salary, depending on qualification and classification, is EUR 40.600, – gross. An overpayment is possible and depends on qualification and the present special experience (Junior Researcher or Senior Researcher)
