The Italian startup TIFEO is looking to fill two open junior or middle researcher profile positions in modeling and design of energy systems and fluid machines. TIFEO was founded in 2018 with the aim to link academic research to the market in the energy field. TIFEO is the exclusive licensee of a recent near-worldwide patent of a thermodynamic cycle and related plant enabled by two-phase fluids machines, i.e. PATENT WO2017158511 (2017-09-21).

The patent technology operates with high efficiency and large flexibility, exploiting any topology of renewable thermal sources from low to high-temperature, in order to supply electric, heating and-or cooling energy vectors from small-scale (e.g. residential) to large-scale (e.g. industrial) end-users. Hence, the patented technology represents a potential breakthrough for the 2050 energy systems.

In order to research, design, construct and experiment the first-of-its-kind lab-scale of this technology, Tifeo promoted the Horizon 2020 EU project “REGEN-BY-2″, which was recently funded (https://www.unipi.it/index.php/risultati-e-prodotti/item/17577-regen-by-2), through the creation of a large international consortium (Universities, Research and Technological Organizations, SMEs and Large Enterprises) from six EU countries (Italy, Spain, France, Greece, Belgium, and Germany) and one extra EU Country (South Korea).

The successful candidate will be involved in the abovementioned recently funded Horizon2020 EU project “REGEN-BY-2”. In particular, he will work in close contact with the Partners of the international consortium and under the supervision of Tifeo’s management, providing a contribution to:

(i) the development of comprehensive simulation models of the patented thermodynamic cycle and of the two-phase machines (i.e. expanders and compressors) and the elaboration of detailed sensitivity analysis;

(ii) design and experimental characterization of the first lab-scale prototype of the patented technology.

In order to qualify for the position, the candidates are required to have:

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Energy Engineering from a reputable institute;
  • High interest and motivation in developing models and design of energy systems and fluid machines;
  • Experience with modeling and simulation software, e.g. Matlab, Aspen, Ansys Fluent, Ansys CFX and Modelica, is a plus;
  • Good English skills (understanding, speaking, and writing);
  • Italian skills are an advantage;
  • Willingness to European working travels (meeting, conference, etc.).
